Check out the most exciting launches in 2018 in the world of smartphones.
iPhone XR, the most exciting phone of 2018 as almost all the same features of the XS and XS Max but way more affordable with a starting price of $749. It has the same A12 bionic processor and updated neural engine so it is a lot faster at face ID and everything else using machine learning. The screen is 6.1-inches LCD size, right in between the XS and XS Max. the detail and contrast look great and I think it is going to hold up even to a discerning eye and the glass on the screen has been updated which is a lot more durable. It comes in six different colours, white, black, blue, yellow, coral, and product red which looks more vibrant in person.
The back is made of glass and the sides are aluminium, it feels a little bit lighter than the XS which has a stainless steel frame. It has the same 12MP camera F 1.8 lens and smart HDR as the XS, resulting in a real step forward in terms of image quality. Thanks to the new camera hardware and improved image signal processor. It has a portrait mode so can detect a human and create shallow depth of field with just one lens and you can see that the lens emulation has gotten better in the quality of the bokeh. The selfie camera has been improved so works better in low light. The ways that Apple brought down the costs are really smart, I think, a lot of it’s things that people won’t notice, for instance, instead of an OLED screen they are using , a liquid retina LCD screen which is a really nice screen, they had to make some updates for those rounded corners but this is hardly going to be noticeable as it still has true tone as well so you aren’t missing the best feature. Apple is actually reporting that the battery life is going to last 1.5 hours longer than on the iPhone 8 Plus.
Samsung Galaxy A9, this Quad camera setup which according to Samsung is the first in the smartphone industry, this one is actually like an elder brother to Galaxy A7 coming with the Snapdragon 660 SOC. The colours are a little bit different, lemony blue, the most interesting one I have noticed at the top it looks like yellow and at bottom it changes the colour. The other colour, the bubblegum pink, not sure if this will launch in India. The other colour is the regular black one with a slight greyish tint.
It has always-on display because it is an AMOLED screen with a full HD+ resolution. At the top, there is a secondary noise cancellation microphone, with the USB type-C at the bottom, and of course the headphone jack along with an extra key, Bixby Key. There is a real physical fingerprint scanner on the back which is a better position as compared to A7 where it is on the power button. Coming back to cameras, it has a four-camera set up at the back. The first one is 8MP wide-angle camera that is having 120 degrees vision, the second is a 10MP which is a 2X telephoto lens and both have aperture of f2.0. The main shooter is a 24MP, with an aperture of f 1.7 and last one is the 5MP that will be used for depth again. The device is not that heavy despite having the four-camera setup and the battery is also 3800mAH. In terms of memory it has 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage will be launched very soon before the end of this October or Early November.
