Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was found to be the best selling smartphone in India for 2017. A Counterpoint Research report proposes that Xiaomi’s budget smartphone sold the highest number of units in the smartphone segment in 2017. Xiaomi took three spots on the list, Samsung took four spots, Vivo took two spots, and Oppo got one spot. A current report also positioned the Jio Phone as the top selling smartphone of Q4 2017.
It comes as no surprise that Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 are the highest and top selling smartphones with the first and second spot, respectively. Both these smartphones were also the fastest selling for Xiaomi with over 2,50,000 units of the Redmi 4 sold in first online sale. Xiaomi’s Redmi 4A (review) bagged the fifth spot on the list.

For Samsung, Galaxy J2 is in the third spot with Galaxy J7 NXT, Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy J2 2016 on the sixth, seventh and eighth positions, respectively. The OPPO A37 surprisingly made it to the fourth spot on the list, mainly owing to its offline-exclusive availability in India. The last two spots are occupied by Vivo’s Y55L and Y53, both of which are budget offerings from the brand.
Reliance Jio made a striking entry into the feature phone segment with a 26 percent market share; Samsung ranked second with just 15 percent of the total market. Despite the success of Jio Phone, Samsung did manage to claim the top spot for feature phone shipments in CY 2017 with a 21 percent market share. Itel ranked second with 12 percent and Jio then came in at third with 11 percent.
