The Blink, a smart watch developed by an Indian startup and one of the best we’ve seen so far
The Blink is a smart watch which also doubles as a fitness tracker and brings in the best elements from different smart watches out there. Consumer Internet of Things (IoT) firm Witworks on Friday announced the launch of its first smart wearable device Blink. It runs on Witworks’ own voice-based operating system called Marvin OS. Available for pre-orders for a starting price of Rs 12,999 from Friday.
Developed by Bangalore-based Witworks, the Blink has a stainless steel body which goes with leather or stainless strap and looks as appealing as the Moto 360. It has a 1.39-inch circular AMOLED display with resolution of 400×400 pixels. The glass on the top is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 coating.
If from the images Blink looks like a good looking traditional watch, that’s because Witworks consulted Indian watch biggies such as HMT and Titan for design and manufacturing. Under the hood sits a 1.2GHz processor of an unspecified brand, coupled with 1GB of RAM and Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity chip. Witworks claims the 300mAh battery on the Blink can last for up to two days on a single charge.
Like the Samsung Gear, the Blink also comes with a rotating bezel user interface. It doesn’t run on Google’s Android Wear OS either, as the startup has created its own Marvin OS, which is based on Android. Like Xiaomi’s Mi Bands and now the Apple Watch, the Blink also serves as an authentication device, which can unlock your devices when the smartwatch is around. The feature works even when there is no internet or cellular connectivity, and uses a mechanism that generates a ‘time-based’ one-type-password which changes every 60 seconds.
The device houses a nine-axis-motion sensor that tracks “all” fitness activity with “extremely high accuracy,” the company says. You can also use the Blink to play music. It connects with Bluetooth speaker or headsets, and also has an in-built speaker that you can use. The Blink also comes with an 8GB internal storage that can be used to store over 1,000 songs.
The Blink comes in two color options — stainless steel black and stainless steel silver, and its price starts at Rs 12,999 ($195). It works with both Android and iOS smartphones.
